Strikers Netball Club win the inaugural Australian Netball Champions League!
A big thank you and congratulations to our highest fundraiser and runner up – the Pembroke Queens!
A big congratulations to the Strikers Netball Club for their amazing effort and hard work in winning the 2019 inaugural Netball Championship for the Australian Champions League on Saturday February 23rd.
With no need to worry about the weather, our teams enjoyed playing on Adelaide’s best indoor netball courts at Priceline Stadium, home of the Adelaide Thunderbirds!
After a morning of fast-paced, quality netball on display thanks to our registered clubs from Aldgate, Barossa District, Happy Valley, Sandy Creek, Tanunda and Walkerville, the two highest ranked clubs (the Pembroke Queens and the Strikers) played off in the grand final just after lunchtime.
The rivalry between Strikers and Pembroke was also on display in our final fundraising tally, with Pembroke edging the Strikers out as our highest fundraiser, raising over $2,700 and taking home some exciting prizes, including a coaching clinic with Nat Von Bertouch.
A special thank you to Nat for also attending the day and being a part of our final presentations. A big well done to all of our clubs for making such an amazing effort in their fundraising, in particular Pembroke, Strikers and Walkerville, who smashed their original targets and helped contribute to a fundraising total of $8,574!
A special congratulations to Carly Wildman from the Strikers, who won the award for best player across the tournament.
Overall, it was a great effort by all involved, who most importantly helps raise funds for Little Heroes Foundation, along with both the Captain Courageous Foundation and I Am Worthmore. The team behind the Australia Champions League would also like to thank Luke McLean from I Am Worthmore, who was an incredible help on the day with the MC duties and big screen scoreboard.
See you next year for the 2020 Australian Netball Champions League, where we are hoping to go even bigger again!
