Adelaide Crow to soar to new heights this November!

The AFLW season may be over for the Crows in 2018, but the training is just getting started for Abbey Holmes, as she prepares to soar to new heights later this year … 5,640m to be exact!

This November, the Adelaide Crows forward and 2014 Slowdown Medallist will join our team of hikers to conquer one of the world’s natural wonders – Mount Everest!

The 12 day trek to Base Camp in Nepal will test not just endurance, but perseverance too, all to raise some much needed funds for children in SA living with a serious illness.

Speaking to The Advertiser’s Roxanne Wilson last week, Abbey said she looked forward to taking on the massive challenge for a worthy cause.

“I am a very active person but I certainly have never been in a high-altitude environment,” she said.

“I will be doing my normal training and additional sessions … including altitude training here in Adelaide.”

Our Chairman Chris McDermott applauded Abbey for choosing to make a difference this off season, warning her that our adventure tours are designed to be a challenge for a reason.

“They (children with serious illness and their families) go through really tough times and you’ve got to stay positive and you’ve got to meet those challenges,” he said.

“That is something we try to get the people who do the tours to understand, to embrace the foundation, what it stands for and the people we support.”

Abbey is not the first Crow to join one of our adventure tours! Just last year Abbey’s teammate and captain Chelsea Randall tackled the Kokoda Trek with along former Crow Brooke Fogden.

What you can do to help

Little Heroes Foundation is hoping to increase the number of climbers from 14 to 20, to help reach our fundraising target of $75,000. This money will help fund our ongoing Little Heroes Care program, which supports children and families during their tough journeys with serious illness.

“Families have financial challenges – it can be in-home nursing, it can be home cleaning, just day-to-day struggles that sometimes are as important as anything we do for the hospital,” Chris said.

If you are interested in joining Abbey and our dedicated team, we want to hear from you! Contact our office on (08) 7099 3628 or email Samantha@littleheroesfoundation.com.au for the information pack.
