Foster greyhounds Emma and Cruise find their forever homes
The team at Little Heroes Foundation had a bittersweet farewell last week, as our foster greyhound Cruise successfully passed his green collar assessment early and was matched with his forever home.
Beautiful Cruise had an amazing impact on our team in the office with his funny habits, love of stealing staff lunches, and a preference for sleeping in the hallway instead of his bed!
We loved watching him adapt to domestic life and his ability to transition so quickly was recognised by his early assessment for his green collar.
After a sad farewell from our team, along with his foster sister Indi (pictured above), Cruise officially moved in with his new family late last week and is already settling in to his new retired life.
Hounds for Heroes – Making a Difference
Cruise is now our second greyhound who has officially been re-homed through our Hounds for Heroes partnership with the Greyhound Adoption Program SA, with gorgeous Emma finding her new family earlier in March.
Feedback from our foster carers has been overwhelmingly positive, with Samantha (carer of Cruise) saying that although it can be sad to see them go, helping these greyhounds with the transition to their domestic life is incredibly rewarding.
“He’s been such a beautiful boy to have around and seeing him come out of his shell so much in the 4 weeks we’ve had him has been amazing.”
“Although it’s extremely tough to let him go, we know we’ve done the right thing by helping him transition into a ‘home’ environment.”
“Please consider fostering if you can! As you can see Indi (our dog) got along with him just fine and he settled in so well.”
Tana and John, our first foster carers to join the program also enjoyed their journey with greyhound Emma, saying that “every moment with her was funny and full of joy. She was just wonderful.”
For anyone considering fostering a greyhound, they said to “just do it, it is a great experience. Nothing scary at all and it is very rewarding!”
Introducing Koda – LHF Foster #2!
Little Heroes Foundation is also excited to welcome Samantha’s second foster greyhound Koda into our office. Koda is a bit smaller than Cruise (so hopefully less lunches go missing!) but is incredibly sweet and confident in her environment already.
If you are interested in fostering a greyhound or learning more about these beautiful canines, joining our Hounds for Heroes partnership is a great way to make a difference to not only the lives of greyhounds in need, but also our Little Heroes and their families right here in SA.
GAPSA are hosting a Foster and Adoption Night this Friday night 29th March from 6:00pm – 8:00pm. More details here.
