Staff at Little Heroes Foundation have been busy bees this April, with three major golfing tournaments in the space of two weeks, all fundraising for seriously ill children and their families.

Italian Charity Golf Day at Grange Golf Club

On Friday, April 13th, the very generous South Australian Italian Golf Club and their sponsors held their annual charity golf day at Grange Golf Club. Teams of four undertook an ambrose style tournament, all while enjoying some amazing on course food, drinks and competitions.

Despite being Friday the 13th, luck was on our side with the forecasted rain holding off until after players were back inside for lunch! With thanks to the Grange Golf Club hospitality, players enjoyed a 2 course lunch, heard from special guest speakers Wayne Phillips (as MC) and Greg Blewett, and participated in some fundraising auctions for our Little Heroes.

From all at Little Heroes Foundation, a big congratulations to all of the winning teams and thank you to all involved in the day for making our staff and volunteers feel so welcomed!

A special mention to all of the very generous organisations who sponsored the event in 2018!

Toll Group Charity Golf Day at Royal Adelaide Golf Club

The following week on Friday April 20th, our good friends and long time supporters at Toll Group held their annual Golf Day at the Royal Adelaide Golf Club, hosting over 100 guests for a full day of golf and a sponsor dinner.

Featuring the likes of our very own Tony Modra and Wayne Phillips, teams made their way around the spectacular course in an ambrose style competition.

Once competition had concluded, golfers made their way to the Royal Adelaide Club function centre for the festivities to continue into the night for dinner. Former Australian cricketer and ABC commentator Kerry O’Keeffe kept our golfers entertained, and Wayne Phillips as MC was at his finest again! The generous team also dug deep in our major fundraising auction, which saw some incredible prizes sold for a worthy cause!

A big thank you to all who made the day possible, including the day’s major sponsor Adapt-A-Lift!

Blitz Golf Day at Glenelg Golf Club

On the same day, Friday April 20th, a new golfing event debuted called Blitz Golf at Glenelg Golf Club!

The new one-day concept, inspired by cricket’s revival with younger audiences through the Big Bash League, saw 40 professional golfers compete in a shortened format at Glenelg Golf Club. The playing field was slowly reduced throughout the day, until two golfers were left to compete on the final 18th hole.

When looking at the highlights for the day, it’s hard to go past the spectacular hole-in-one on the 14th hole, by New South Wales’ Dylan Stollery, his first ever hole-in-one in competition! Some other big name golfers joined in the fun, including Craig Parry, Sam Earl, Max McArdle, Peter O’Malley, Campbell Rawson and Michael Long. We even spied Channel 9’s Tom Rehn (who ran in the 2016 New York Marathon for Little Heroes Foundation) playing the role of caddy for Victorian Pro Jack Wilson!

In the end, Adelaide’s Antonio Murdaca claimed the first Blitz Golf title, defeating Victoria’s Dimi Papadatos – nothing like a little cross-border rivalry!

A big thank you to all who made the day possible, in particular the committee behind the upcoming Little Wings Ball, for recommending Little Heroes Foundation as the charity of choice! Committee members, including Little Heroes mum Hannah, Tricia and Cassie all put in an incredible amount of work for the day, representing Team Little Heroes, and we think they did an amazing job! Their support has and continues to be invaluable to our cause, and we couldn’t have done it without their hard work – thank you ladies!

Overall, it was a busy two weeks of golf this April, and it would not have been possible without the amazing support of all sponsors, corporate supporters, golfers, volunteers and more. Together, these Golf Days have helped raise over $40,000 combined, to support our ongoing projects.
