Mother’s Day Luncheon returns to National Wine Centre

Our Mother’s Day Luncheon returned to the National Wine Centre on Friday 10th May, as we celebrated the everyday super heroes in our lives – our mums!

The day began with our annual fashion parade along the wine centre’s iconic ramp, with drinks on arrival (and throughout the day) thanks to Paracombe Wines.

The parade, hosted by the amazing Markus Hamence, featured designs by Jaimie Sortino, Harvey The Label, and Georgy Collection, with hair and make-up by the team at Davroe and Jerick Moral.

After the parade, guests were ushered into the Hickinbotham Hall, which as usual was beautifully presented by the National Wine Centre staff and AV Plus, with decorations by Angelik Blossom, Behind the Flower Wall and Chaircovers Overall. On the tables, we also had some lovely gifts for every guest with a delicious cupcake from The Cupcake Lady, and little gift bag from Bundle + Twine.

Throughout the day, guests were able to browse through some amazing prizes in our silent and major auctions, with products donated by Raw Pearls, Davroe, Minijumbuk, Lifestyle Medical, Port Adelaide FC, PalletCo, South Aussie with Cosi, Boileau, Arkaba Hotel, The Greyhound Adoption Program, and more!

Our Glam Bags this year were packed with value, thanks to premium products donated by National Pharmacies and Davroe Haircare! Plus, we had a very generous team of Firies from the Metropolitan Fire Service to lend a helping hand in selling these bags. Thank you Toby and crew for doing an AMAZING job on the day! Big thanks as well to Sonya from Nutrimetics was also set up for the day, providing free make up touch ups for any of our guests.

Keeping guests entertained between their delicious 2 course lunch (with dessert buffet thanks to Vili’s Bakery) was our ambassador Anna Meares, who MC’d the event (and we think she did an AMAZING job as her first ever MC gig!). This year we heard from some special guest speakers, beginning with Rebecca Morse.

An award winning journalist and proud South Aussie, Rebecca Morse has been presenting Adelaide’s news for over a decade and is a household name across SA. She is also a proud advocate of community services and charitable causes across the state, writes a monthly news column for Kiddo Mag, passionately barracks for her beloved Port Adelaide Football Club, and most recently, joined Andrew ‘Cosi’ Costello as part of Hit 107’s new breakfast radio lineup! Plus, after all of her career achievements, Rebecca is also a proud mum to three daughters, and we were thrilled to have her join our guest speakers to discuss how she juggles motherhood and her career!

Following Rebecca was the captivating Rhonda Burchmore, who spoke candidly about her life, motherhood and the journey she has had in the world of entertainment. In an incredibly touching gesture, after flight delays gave her no opportunity for a sound-check or warm up, Rhonda sang a beautiful song for our guests, dedicated to our final guest speaker Monique and her family, who have had their own unique experiences as one of our Little Heroes families.

Motherhood is a rollercoaster, and it was in March 2017 that life for Monique and her family was changed forever, after her youngest child Madison was diagnosed with an aggressive cancer called Neuroblastoma. Maddie’s treatment journey has had some ups and downs, and Monique spoke to our guests candidly about her experiences as a mother of a seriously ill child and why the continued support of charities like Little Heroes Foundation is so important. Monique, thank you so much for being so strong in sharing the raw side of what our Little Heroes families go through.

Overall, the day was a huge success, and already we’ve received lots of encouraging and positive feedback from our guests! Thanks to the ongoing support of these generous people and businesses, the day raised over $15,000 for our Little Heroes Care program and other ongoing support services and projects.

Thank you to everyone who contributed to the success of the event in 2019, and we hope to see many of you celebrating Mother’s Day with us again in 2020!
