Mother’s Day Luncheon returns to National Wine Centre
Raising close to $20,000 for our Little Heroes! Well done, mums!
Our Mother’s Day Luncheon returned to the National Wine Centre last Friday, as we celebrated the everyday super heroes in our lives – our mums!
Our guests arrived to a glass of bubbles thanks to Paracombe Wines, and a stunning flower wall by Adelaide Flower Wall Experts in the entry, before being seated for our annual fashion parade along the wine centre’s iconic ramp.
The parade, championed by our long-time supporter and good friend Markus Hamence from SceneTV, featured designs by Carla Zampatti, One Night Stand Boutique, and Royalty Kids Apparel, with hair and make-up by the team at Davroe and Jerick Moral.
After the parade, guests were ushered into the Hickinbotham Hall, which as usual was beautifully presented by the National Wine Centre staff and AV Plus, with decorations by The Wonderland Company, Flower Dreaming by Lyn, Hayley’s Flower Shop, and Chaircovers Over All. On the tables, we also had some lovely small gifts for every guest with a gorgeous colourful pair of earrings from Pop Rock Park, and a full-size jam from Spring Gully Foods.
Throughout the day, guests were able to browse through some amazing prizes in our silent and major auctions, with products donated by The Beachouse, Davroe, The Arkaba Hotel, Barrels 4 U, Vuly, Class A Jewellers, Ettie Ink, Godfreys Firle, Carla Zampatti and Adelaide Suits Direct.
Little Heroes Foundation also had some amazing support from National Pharmacies and Davroe Haircare, providing some premium products for our Glam Bags!
Effie from Nutrimetics was also set up for the day, providing free make up touch ups for any of our guests.
Keeping guests entertained between their delicious 2 course lunch was our MC Jade Robran (mum of twin boys and Channel 7 News presenter), along with some special guest speakers, with the first being Pippa Wanganeen.
Don’t let the last name fool you – she may be married to AFL royalty in Gavin Wanganeen, however Pippa’s experiences with serious illness through her parents, her community work, previous career in law, and now being mum to 5 children (including having three in 2 and a half years!) shows she’s a lot more than just a pretty face! We loved having Pippa on board to support the day and share her experiences as a mother, wife, lawyer and more.
Following Pippa was the hilarious, brilliant and inspirational Dorinda Hafner. Dorinda’s vivacious and infectious personality was on show as soon as she was handed a microphone (which of course was held in a way only Dorinda would think of), talking to our audience about the importance of positive thinking and energy, being kind to one another, and loving yourself as you are. We’re also pretty confident in saying that Friday’s luncheon was the first time anyone in the audience has ever sung the word ‘Chocolate’ to the tune of Amazing Grace! Thank you Dorinda for entertaining our guests, delivering a beautiful and moving speech, and for continuing to be you!
Our final guest speaker for the day was the incredibly brave Angela Mickan, one of our Little Heroes mums. Friday was almost a year to the day Angela’s son Henry was diagnosed with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukaemia. Angela, at the time of Henry’s diagnosis, was heavily pregnant and ended up giving birth to her third child just a few days before Henry’s treatment began in May 2017. Angela, the strength that you showed in sharing your story with our guests, particularly given how significant the timing was for you and your family, was inspirational. Thank you, from all of us here at Little Heroes Foundation for your generosity, kindness and bravery.
Overall, the day was a huge success, and already we’ve received lots of encouraging and positive feedback from our guests! Thanks to the ongoing support of these generous people and businesses, the day raised close to $20,000 for our Little Heroes Care program.
These funds mean we make a difference to the lives of families in need. For some context, to show you how much these events mean to us and how we support our Little Heroes, with $20,000 we can provide:
