Merry Christmas from Chris and the team at Little Heroes Foundation
On behalf of all of us here at Little Heroes Foundation a big thanks to all of our dedicated supporters and corporate partners for another successful year in 2016.
The highlight of course was the opening of our ‘Centre for Robotics and Innovation’ at the Women’s and Children’s Hospital in August. This project was two years in the making and to see it all come together was a very special moment for all of us. I hope it was for you too.
We also celebrated our 20th Birthday on May 30th. It was fun to look back on our journey that started all the way back in 1996, and to be able to share the moment with so many of you was a real highlight for me in 2016.
Our West End Slowdown was held on Father’s Day for the first time, with a new team format – the SA Legends v Indigenous All Stars, and raised over $140,000! I’d like to take this opportunity to thank West End for their support of this iconic event for the last 16 years and while the partnership with Slowdown may have come to an end we look forward to working with them again in 2017.
Our New York Marathoners travelled across the Pacific in early November and raised over $120,000 for our Little Heroes – an amazing result! We thank the entire team for their efforts and especially congratulate Kane Cornes on running the 42km in 3 hours and 10 minutes.
Also in November, our long time ambassador Anna Meares announced her retirement from Cycling, after her fourth Olympic Games in Rio earlier this year. It goes without saying how much her support has meant to Little Heroes Foundation. The good news is, Anna will continue her role as a Little Heroes Ambassador but we fully support her decision to focus her attention for the immediate future on supporting her coach in his battle with MND.
I would also like to officially welcome Tony Modra to the Little Heroes team as our new Corporate Relations Manager. We look forward to Tony’s involvement in our events, including the upcoming Flotilla for Kids in February.
Finally on behalf of all the team, I’d like to thank you all for your continued support in 2016. These are difficult times so we must get smarter and more creative in the way we raise funds to continue to do the work we do.
Any suggestions or help, as always is greatly appreciated.
Have a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year and we look forward to catching up in 2017.
Cheers,
Chris McDermott
Little Heroes Foundation Chairman
