Koda and Cruise among 25 greyhounds adopted on Sunday 28th
Hounds for Heroes – supporting our Little Heroes and helping re-home retired greyhounds!
Sunday April 28th was National Greyhound Adoption Day, and our good friends at the Greyhound Adoption Program SA hosted a special event, showcasing many gorgeous greyhounds who were currently waiting to find their forever home.
The day was a huge success, with plenty of kids entertainment, face painting and even a superhero dress up competition, judged by our very own Chris McDermott and Port Adelaide superstar Ollie Wines!
In the end, 25 greyhounds were adopted, including Little Heroes Foundation fosters Cruise and Koda! Both Cruise and Koda were fostered by our Sponsorship and Events Manager Samantha over the past few months, following our partnership with GAPSA to promote a new 12 month campaign called Hounds For Heroes!
About Hounds for Heroes
Hounds for Heroes focuses on the fostering aspect of re-homing retired greyhounds, with each successful foster through this program seeing a $1,000 donation made from GAPSA towards our ongoing projects and programs supporting seriously ill children.
Before a greyhound can be adopted into their forever home, they require support from a loving and patient foster carer/family, to learn the ways of domestic life and successfully transition out of racing life. Part of this process includes passing what is known as the Green Collar Assessment, where the greyhound’s behaviour and characteristics are accessed before they can be considered available to adopt.
